The Cat Scanner app helps you to reliably determine the breed of your cat. For this purpose our database<\/u><\/a> currently includes about 60 different cat breeds from all over the world, Once you scan your cat, our AI will compare the photos oder videos you made with the information in our database. The about 60 breeds listed in our app are mostly based on the official breed standard of the F\u00e9d\u00e9ration Internationale F\u00e9line<\/u><\/a>, but even exceed it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is the F\u00e9d\u00e9ration Internationale F\u00e9line?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The F\u00e9d\u00e9ration\nInternationale F\u00e9line (FIFe) is an international umbrella\norganisation of cat breeders’ associations around the world. It sets\nuniform standards in cat breeding and defines the different breeds.\nThe FIFe does not only focus on the clear identification and the\nassignment of typical traits of the individual cat breeds, but also\non the health of the animals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The F\u00e9d\u00e9ration Internationale F\u00e9line was created by the Frenchwoman Marguerite Ravel and was finally officially founded in the city of Ghent on 10 December 1950. As it was a purely European umbrella organisation at that time, the organisation was initially known as the F\u00e9d\u00e9ration Internationale F\u00e9line d’Europe (FIFE). In the course of the admission of the first non-European member federation (the Brazilian Clube Brasileiro do Gato) in 1972 the name of the organization was adapted and since then it is called F\u00e9d\u00e9ration Internationale F\u00e9line (FIFe). At present 42 federations from 40 countries are members of FIFe, among them also federations in Asia and South America. In addition to the comprehensive breed standards, which are essential for us and our app, and which are provided and regularly revised by FIFe, the organisation hosts more than 700 cat shows all over the world every year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our database contains even more than the official breeds<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

There are different reasons why the Cat Scanner database currently recognises about 60 different cat breeds, more than the 48 breeds currently officially recognised by FIFe. One reason is that we have included unrecognized subtypes of an official breed in the database when it seemed reasonable (e.g. the Himalayan<\/u><\/a> as a variant of the Persian cat<\/u><\/a>). Also, our database contains especially popular cat types which cannot be assigned to a unique breed, but which we think should be included in the Cat Scanner simply because of their frequency. For example, the most common cat in the US by far, the Domestic short-haired cat<\/u><\/a>, is not a distinct breed. In addition, the Cat Scanner app takes into account not only domestic cats but also various large cats (including lion<\/u><\/a>, tiger<\/u><\/a>, jaguar<\/u><\/a> and others).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Due to multiple requests from our users, we have also included the most common coat patterns in our recognition software in addition to the different breeds. The names Tabby<\/u><\/a>, Calico<\/u><\/a>, Tortoiseshell<\/u><\/a> or Tuxedo<\/u><\/a> do not technically describe a breed, but a characteristic coat pattern, which can actually be found in various breeds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
