Old German Shepherd Dog

Summary

With the term Old German Shepherd Dog is today in the general linguistic usage predominantly the German Shepherd with longer deck hair designated. This is bred in different associations. The reason is to be found in the history of the German shepherd dog. After the Verein für Deutsche Schäferhunde (SV) had decided that the long-haired type should no longer be permitted for breeding, some breeders founded their own breeding association in order to obtain the long-haired or long-stock type by breeding it themselves. The name 'Altdeutscher Schäferhund' was used. The SV decided to admit the long stick haired type for breeding again from 2010. Originally, the term Old German Shepherd Dog refers to some old German Shepherd Dog hits that did not go into the breeding of the German Shepherd Dog and are now summarized under the generic term Old German Shepherd Dogs. Nevertheless, the original designation is still used.
